WWE Star, Ray Mysterio set to retire from wrestling

WWE legend Rey Mysterio has called time on his professional wrestling career, as the 45-year-old is set for one final curtain call on Monday.

The Mexican-American cruiserweight - real name Oscar Gutierrez - looks set to bow out in a special 'retirement ceremony' show on WWE Raw confirmed by the company on Twitter.

They wrote: "@WWERollins ( Seth Rollins ) will be the host of @reymysterio's retirement ceremony next week on #WWERaw."

Mysterio has been wrestling since the age of 14 in Mexico, and has enjoyed a successful career with several major franchises.

He was signed by WCW in 1996 following a year with ECW, and spent six years there, facing off in high-profile cruiserweight clashes against the likes of Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko and the late Eddie Guerrero - whom he later joined in tag-team The Filthy Animals with Billy Kidman.

Following the takeover of WCW in 2001, Mysterio briefly returned to wrestle in Mexico, but soon returned to sign for WWE.

It was with Vince McMahon's label that he gained a significant following, becoming an instant success.

In his two spells with the franchise he has been crowned WWE champion twice, cruiserweight champion three times, a four-time Tag Team champion, as well as various other achievements - including winning the Royal Rumble.
