Chelsea beat Southampton 4-3 on penalties to reach the EFL Cup quarter-final.
Kai Havertz put Chelsea ahead just before half-time with a thumping header before Adams tapped in from close range after Walker-Peters' shot was saved.
The game was stretched to penalty with Southampton Theo Walcott hitting the post before Mount's spot-kick was saved by Forster. Smallbone sent his effort flying high over the bar though and successful kicks from Alonso, Hudson-Odoi, Chilwell and James send them through.
