Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has issued a public apology after he was sent off during Thursday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.

The red card happens to be Granit Xhaka fifth in his Gunners career and it is his second dismissal of the season.

The Switzerland international was shown a straight red card inside half-an-hour for a rash high tackle on Diogo Jota.

This means Xhaka will miss the second leg against Liverpool next week at the Emirates stadium.

Taking to his verified Instagram page (@granitxhaka), he captioned: "I want to apologise to everyone. I am so proud of my team and the spirit that they showed to keep a clean sheet tonight."

Although, Mikel Arteta side managed to keep Jurgen Klopp side from finding the back of the net as the ended in a goalless draw.
