Pep Guardiola has revealed the reason Manchester City signed another center back this summer transfer window.
The Premier League champions completed the transfer of Manuel Akanji just before the transfer window was shut on Thursday 2nd of September 2022.
Manuel, 25, is a professional footballer who plays as defender for Swiss national team. The 25-year-old joined Manchester City for £15m on a long term deal.
Ahead of Manchester City trip to Villa Park on Saturday evening clash, Guardiola said that his team signed another defender due to the injury crisis.
City are already missing Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are currently sidelined due to injuries.
Guardiola said: "Yes we had an incredible four central defenders before Manuel. Aymeric has a tough injury and is still a month, month and a half away, and Nathan still has muscular problems. So we could not face this busy schedule with just two central defenders"
Manchester City have played one draw an four wins so far this season, with Erling Haaland scoring back to back hat-trick.
The Premier League champions travel to face Aston Villa on Saturday evening at 5:30pm GMT.
Guardiola added: "(On Manuel Akanji) We had a chance to bring someone with one year left on his deal. He is fast and really good in the buildup. We saw this when we faced Dortmund three seasons ago. We are glad he is here."
