The 24-year-old has been ruled out of England's campaign at World Cup in Qatar.
Reportminds Blog understands that the English international has not recovered from the knee injury he picked up against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League last month.
Reece James flew to Dubai to undergo an intensive rehabilitation programmer as he was optimistic about being fit for the FIFA tournament.
"Devastated," James wrote on Twitter. "The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible."
It's been gathered that coach Gareth Southgate will announce England 26 man squad this Thursday ahead of tournament which kick off on November 20th.
The Three Lions will play Iran in their opening group game on November 21st.
James revealed he didn't want to risk his health playing at the World Cup, he added: "I've worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team. I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take"
The Chelsea star wished his team mates luck in the competition, saying: "Good luck to the boys. I'll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love."
