After dropping Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Chelsea's Mason Mount, England head coach Gareth Southgate has provided an explanation for his team's selection for the 2022 FIFA World Cup match against Wales.

Southgate made a few adjustments for Tuesday's final group B match against Wales after selecting the same starting XI for England's first two matches against Iran and the USA, respectively.

Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Mason Mount, Bukayo Saka, Kieran Trippier, and Raheem Sterling were cut from England's starting XI by Southgate.

In his pre-match press conference prior to kickoff, Southgate provided an explanation for his selection of Wales' team, statingm

He said: "We believe that Foden and Rashford can be troublemakers for Wales, and we also thought it was important to add some new players to the team.

“We are looking forward to them playing tonight. They have both trained extremely well.

"We think it is good to have Kyle in the team now that he is ready to start. We need tonight's outcome to advance to the next round.Kyle will benefit from playing football.

"We have not discussed whether it will be a derby. There has been a lot of noise around us and this game, but we must concentrate on our football and ensure that our work rate and effort are higher than the opponent’s."
