In order to win the 2022 FIFA Best Men's Player of the Year award, Lionel Messi defeated Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe.

In THREE different decades, Lionel Messi has taken home the Best FIFA Men's Player honor.

Messi scored in every round of the tournament, a feat he had never accomplished in his international career before Qatar. His two goals in the thrilling final in Lusail stand out as his most memorable contributions.

Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball award as the best player of the competition and set a record by winning it twice, the first time being in Brazil in 2014. Paris Saint-Germain's Christophe Galtier's team leads Ligue 1 by eight points despite Messi's mammoth 33 goal contributions in 28 games this season despite the fact that he has yet to win a team trophy with PSG this year.

In addition to his 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year honor, Messi has now won The Best Men's Player honor twice since the competition's rebranding in 2016. His second victory brings him on par with Cristiano Ronaldo (2016, 2017) and Robert Lewandowski (2020, 2021), who have split all but one of the awards; the 2018 prize was given to a different player, Luka Modric.
