The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman named Rahama Sulaiman for allegedly kidnapping her 6-year-old daughter and demanding N3 million in ransom from her ex-husband.
Rahama allegedly transferred the girl to a family member in the Madobi Local Government Area (LGA) to care for for her while she was gone for four days, according to reports.
The husband, Kabiru Shehu, reported that his daughter had been abducted, according to the commissioner of police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, who was speaking to reporters at the Kano Police Command's headquarters on Friday, May 13, 2023.
A further inquiry revealed that the victim had been saved in Madobi LGA. After being detained, the divorcée admitted to having prepared, taken her daughter to a hiding place, and demanding the ransom. An investigation is being conducted, the CP said.
Rahama saw that her ex-husband had not provided her with money to feed the kids for more than ten months, so she made the decision to kidnap their daughter in order to get money from him to feed the kids.
The suspect, however, admitted that she had made amends with her spouse and showed regret for her behavior. Shehu said that his wife had never done such a thing before, but he also affirmed that they had made up.
