Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk could face lengthy suspension after new FA charge

Following his straight red card for denying Alexander Isak a chance to score in Liverpool's 2-1 victory in the first half, Van Dijk was given a one-game suspension.

However, the FA has now accused him of violating FA Rule E3.1.

The defender is accused of acting inappropriately and/or verbally abusing and/or insulting a match official.

After being dismissed, Van Dijk turned on fourth official and referee John Brooks.

It took a while before manager Jurgen Klopp intervened to get the Dutchman off the field.

In the event that he is found guilty, Van Dijk's suspension may be increased by up to three games.
