Given Gabriel Jesus' absence, Mikel Arteta has suggested Kai Havertz may fill a different position for Arsenal. The Brazilian striker was unable to play against Monaco in the Emirates Cup after having surgery to address a persistent problem with his knee.
After sustaining a knee injury while traveling with Brazil to the World Cup in Qatar, Jesus missed three months of activity last season. The 26-year-old's recovery time is now unknown as Arsenal gears up to take on Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Sunday afternoon.
Havertz played as a No. 8 for the bulk of the preseason, but Arteta has recently suggested that he may be used as center-forward. The German international, who cost Chelsea £65 million, previously played as a No. 9 at the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the City clash, Arteta said: "Well, he’s [Havertz] played the majority at the moments as an attacking midfielder. We will see.
"The team gives you a lot of information every day and some connections that you didn’t expect. It’s natural."
