Liverpool Star's Christmas Post Spurs Controversy Among Muslim Followers
Liverpool's 31-year-old football sensation, Mohamed Salah, who practices Islam, encountered disapproval from his Muslim fan base on social media after sharing a Christmas-themed message.
In his post, Salah, accompanied by a photo of a Christmas tree, expressed, "Christmas is a time when families get together and celebrate." Despite the festive context, he addressed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, particularly the distressing situation in Gaza, conveying heartfelt sympathy for those mourning the loss of their loved ones.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Salah urged, "Please do not forget them and do not get used to their suffering. Merry Christmas."
It's noteworthy that while Muslims generally do not observe Christmas, some may engage in the festivities associated with the Christian holiday.
Salah in his message along with the picture of the Christmas tree, wrote: ‘Christmas is a time when families get together and celebrate.
‘With the brutal war going on in the Middle East, especially the death and destruction in Gaza, this year we get to Christmas with very heavy hearts and we share the pain of those families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.
‘Please do not forget them and do not get used to their suffering. Merry Christmas.'
This incident marks a second instance of Salah facing social media backlash related to Christmas, as he was previously criticized last year for sharing a family photo in front of a Christmas tree.
