Mohamed Salah missed his penalty kick during Liverpool's Premier League Clash with Newcastle United

The Reds welcomed the Magpies to the Anfield stadium in their first Premier League game of the new year 

Liverpool could extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a victory against Eddie Howe's side 

Jurgen Klopp's side were presented with the first chance when Luis Diaz scored but it was ruled out for offside in the 18 minutes. 

Then Liverpool got another opportunity when Dan Burn brought down Darwin Nunez in the box of Newcastle United two minutes later.

Mohamed Salah stepped up for the penalty and he missed. The 31-year-old missed his fourth out of the last ten penalties taken for Liverpool.

Meanwhile Liverpool still got the chance to score as the ball fell into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold who blazed his effort over the bar.
