Premier League Giants Arsenal Set Sights on Nigerian Striker
Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has revealed that Arsenal Football Club is earnestly plotting a move to secure the services of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen from Napoli, with a reported offer of €130m on the table. The English club aims to bolster its attacking lineup by bringing Osimhen to the Emirates Stadium during the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window.
According to Jacobs, Arsenal is prepared to match Osimhen’s hefty €130m release clause and is willing to meet his wage demands of £250,000 per week. Manager Mikel Arteta has purportedly singled out the Nigerian striker as an ideal addition to the squad, as the Gunners strive to enhance their attacking prowess for the forthcoming season.
“We still can’t rule out Arsenal in the race for Osimhen,” Jacobs remarked, as cited by GiveMeSport. “It’s also true that PSG have Osimhen very, very high on their list of targets and can move in the market because they will free up money due to Kylian Mbappe’s departure."
While Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) looms as competition, sources suggest that Osimhen’s preference lies with the Premier League, presenting an encouraging prospect for both Chelsea and Arsenal. The reported wage demands of £250,000 per week are deemed acceptable by the interested parties, indicating a willingness to meet the player’s financial expectations.
Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s triumph in the Serie A last season, contributing 26 goals in 32 league appearances as the club secured its first league title in 33 years. The 25-year-old forward, reigning African Player of the Year, has maintained his impressive form into the current campaign, tallying eight goals in 14 Serie A outings for Napoli in the 2023/24 season.
Since his arrival at Napoli from Lille in 2020, the Nigerian international has been a consistent goal threat, amassing 69 goals and 17 assists in 121 appearances across all competitions for the Italian outfit. As Arsenal sets its sights on securing Osimhen’s signature, the potential acquisition could signal a significant boost to the club's attacking options and aspirations for future success.
