William Troost-Ekong, aged 30, endured a hamstring injury during the 2023 AFCON but displayed remarkable resilience by continuing to lead Nigeria, ultimately securing the silver medal in the Ivory Coast-hosted event.

Troost-Ekong's stellar performance throughout the tournament culminated in his recognition as the player of the tournament, having scored three goals.

Reports from Own Goal Nigeria indicate that PAOK is actively pursuing compensation from FIFA for Troost-Ekong's injury sustained while fulfilling his international duty for Nigeria at the AFCON.

Recent updates revealed that Troost-Ekong, who also serves as the vice-captain of the Super Eagles, underwent a successful surgery in Finland to address the injury incurred during the 2023 AFCON.

PAOK's demand for compensation is estimated at €20,548 (£18,008) per day for the duration of Troost-Ekong's absence. FIFA's compensation cap for each player stands at €7.5 million (£66.57 million), a figure the Greek club aims to leverage in pursuit of adequate restitution.
