Chelsea Manager Pochettino Reveals Christopher Nkunku's Hamstring Injury Setback

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has officially announced that 26-year-old striker Christopher Nkunku is set to endure a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, dealing a fresh blow to the team's lineup.

The injury revelation comes ahead of Chelsea's crucial Premier League clash with Brentford scheduled for this weekend. As the Blues prepare to face Thomas Frank's side at the Gtech Stadium on Saturday evening, Pochettino disclosed the unfortunate news about Nkunku's unavailability for the upcoming match.

Pochettino, addressing the media on Friday, stated, “Nkunku suffered a problem in his hamstring. We will assess his recovery progress over the next few weeks to determine his potential availability for future fixtures.”

Notably, the 26-year-old forward featured in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday, entering the game in the 67th minute. Despite playing through the remaining minutes, including extra time, Chelsea succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium. Post-match examinations confirmed Nkunku's hamstring injury.

Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig last summer, has faced a series of unfortunate injuries during his tenure with the club. In the previous summer, a knee injury sustained in a pre-season game required surgery, sidelining him for the initial four months of the season. Additionally, a hip injury kept him out for a significant portion of January.

Expressing empathy for the player, Pochettino remarked, “He’s been a little bit unlucky because suffering injuries again is always tough for a player.”

With just 10 appearances in all competitions this season, primarily as a substitute, Nkunku's absence presents a challenge for Chelsea as they navigate the remainder of their campaign. The club will closely monitor his recovery and determine his return timeline in the coming weeks.
