Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, addressed the media concerning the fitness status of key players Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Jurrien Timber ahead of their Premier League encounter with Luton Town.
Saka's Fitness Confirmed Ahead of Luton Clash
Mikel Arteta, addressing the media before Arsenal's upcoming Premier League encounter with Luton Town, dispelled rumors surrounding Bukayo Saka's injury status.
Despite being substituted late in the match against Manchester City, Arteta assured reporters that Saka is in good shape.
"He’s fine," Arteta affirmed, emphasizing the team's focus on recovery and preparation for the game. The decision on whether Saka will start will be based on his condition after a brief training session.
Martinelli Ready for Action
Gabriel Martinelli, who replaced Saka during the clash with Manchester City, has been declared fit by Arteta to face Luton Town. The Brazilian winger recently recovered from a foot injury that sidelined him from international duty with Brazil.
Arteta expressed confidence in Martinelli's fitness, stating that he was available for a tough opponent in the previous match and suggesting that his readiness to play 90 minutes will be assessed after training.
Timber's Return on the Horizon
Arteta also provided an update on Jurrien Timber's potential involvement with Arsenal this season. The full-back, signed from Ajax, has been sidelined since August of the previous year due to an ACL tear.
Despite showing promise during preseason, Timber's injury in his first game ruled him out for an extended period. However, Arteta revealed that Timber is progressing well in training but may require additional match fitness, possibly with the U21s side, before making a return to first-team action.
Arteta emphasized the importance of the final stages of recovery, acknowledging that it could take some time but expressing hope for a swift return.
