AC Milan players marked Mother's Day in a unique and heartwarming way during their match against Cagliari. 

Instead of wearing their own surnames on their jerseys, they donned shirts bearing their mothers' maiden names. This thoughtful gesture was part of an initiative aimed at promoting gender equality and raising awareness about the importance of equal rights in choosing a child's surname.

According to AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani, the team is "happy and proud" to be a part of this special initiative, which coincided with Mother's Day. The move was inspired by a court ruling in April 2022 that declared the automatic assignment of a father's last name to be discriminatory. As a result, both parents now have the right to choose which surname their children receive.

By wearing their mothers' names on their jerseys, the AC Milan players not only honored their mothers but also contributed to a larger conversation about gender equality and the importance of equal rights. The initiative was a poignant reminder of the significance of recognizing and challenging discriminatory laws and practices.
