During his playing career, Åžahin made 135 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals and providing 24 assists. He was an integral part of the team that won the Bundesliga title in 2011 and 2012, as well as the DFB-Pokal in 2012.

Terzić, who predecessor Şahin, had a remarkable tenure at Dortmund, leading the team to a second-place finish in the Champions League final last season, behind winners Real Madrid. His departure marks the end of an era, and Şahin's appointment signals a new chapter in the club's history.

As a player, Şahin was renowned for his vision, creativity, and leadership qualities, which made him a fan favorite at Dortmund. The 35-year-old will now bring his expertise and knowledge to the dugout, aiming to build on the success achieved under Terzić's guidance.
