Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer and activist, has responded to a video showing police officers in Lekki, Lagos State, demonstrating a show of force a day before the nationwide #endbadgovernance protest.
The video captured numerous officers marching through the streets, chanting as they went. The police presence was evidently meant to dissuade the protesters and show the state's readiness to enforce law and order during the planned demonstration.
In response to the video, Deji, who is one of the protest's conveners, commented, "This is Lekki, Lagos right now. Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna bandits will just be laughing."
His statement pointed out the irony of the situation, where substantial police resources were deployed in a relatively peaceful area, while regions like Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna, which are plagued by banditry and insecurity, receive insufficient attention from law enforcement.
