Since assuming their respective positions, Kingibe and Wike have had a contentious relationship. Wike has made threats regarding the 2027 general election, suggesting that if Kingibe continues to criticize his leadership in the FCT, he will work to unseat her. He also made a highly inappropriate comment, telling Kingibe to "go and hang herself on a transformer" if she was dissatisfied with his performance.
In an interview with Channels TV, Kingibe responded strongly to Wike’s remarks, stating that such comments were not only disrespectful but also demonstrated a lack of understanding of the FCT's purpose. She remarked, "He doesn’t obviously understand the concept of the FCT. If he did, it is nothing personal. He says ‘I don’t want to be her friend.’ How does governance translate into friendship?”
Kingibe made it clear that her willingness to work with Wike hinges on his apology for the transformer comment. She said, "I’m actually willing to do everything to work with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory as long as he apologises first for saying I should go and hang on a transformer."
She emphasized that once Wike offers this apology, she is prepared to move forward and start anew. However, until such an apology is made, she remains resolute in maintaining her current position. Kingibe further pointed out, "With all due respect, I am so much older than him. Even courtesy demands he should not speak to me like that.”
