This move comes after German coach Bruno Labbadia withdrew from the role due to unresolved issues with German tax laws. Eguavoen, a seasoned coach and former player, will now lead the team in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Eguavoen's appointment is a strategic move, leveraging his extensive experience and familiarity with the team. He has previously managed the Super Eagles on an interim basis, successfully guiding them to the Round of 16 at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon. With his deep understanding of the team's dynamics and his coaching expertise, Eguavoen is well-positioned to lead the Super Eagles to victory.
In addition to his coaching role, Eguavoen has also been appointed as the Technical Director of the NFF. His coaching career spans over two decades, with a wealth of experience managing teams in Nigeria, Malta, and South Africa. Eguavoen's playing career was equally impressive, with stints at ACB Lagos, Gent, Kortrijk, and Torpedo Moscow, among others. He was also a member of the Nigeria national team that won the African Nations Cup in 1994.
