Among the setbacks, young talent Oscar Bobb has been ruled out for three to four months due to a fractured fibula, which will require surgery. This injury is a considerable blow to the team's depth, especially as they enter a crucial phase of the season. Additionally, star midfielder Rodri, who played a pivotal role in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph, will miss the season opener as he is still recovering from an extended summer break and is working to regain full match fitness.

The uncertainty surrounding the availability of key players Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and John Stones adds to Guardiola’s selection woes. All three players were absent during Manchester City's Community Shield victory over Manchester United and have only recently returned to first-team training. Their participation in Sunday’s match remains in doubt, which could further complicate Guardiola's plans.

On a positive note, goalkeeper Ederson is set to stay with Manchester City for the season, quashing rumors of a potential move to Saudi Arabia. He is expected to start in goal, with Stefan Ortega serving as his backup.

In light of Walker's potential absence, Rico Lewis may step in at right-back, alongside Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and new signing Josko Gvardiol, who are likely to form the rest of the defense.

With Rodri unavailable, Mateo Kovacic is expected to adopt a deeper role in midfield. Guardiola has the option to flank Kovacic with Matheus Nunes, Bernardo Silva, or Kevin De Bruyne, depending on the final lineup.

Bernardo Silva’s versatility also makes him a strong contender for the right wing, a position that could alternatively be filled by Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, or newcomer Savinho. Meanwhile, Jack Grealish is anticipated to be fit for Sunday's match, having missed the Community Shield due to a minor injury.
