Rudeboy, whose real name is Paul Okoye, has claimed that his twin brother, Peter Okoye—also known as Mr P—was responsible for his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).In an interview with City FM in Lagos, Rudeboy disclosed that Mr P had submitted a petition to the EFCC accusing him of involvement in fraudulent activities. Despite a thorough investigation that cleared Rudeboy of all allegations, he reported that Mr P has not apologized for the baseless claims.
Rudeboy explained, “This year, I was invited by the EFCC after they received a petition against me from my twin brother. I never thought it [our conflict] would escalate to this level. I assumed it was merely a matter of music.” He expressed his disbelief that their personal disagreement had reached such a serious legal confrontation.
He further detailed the situation, saying, “The next thing, people are asking me, ‘What do you do?’ Somebody said, ‘You’re going to go to jail for 20 years. They’re going to lock you up.’” At the EFCC office, he was informed about the gravity of the accusations and was presented with his account statements, which had been thoroughly reviewed. “They asked me to explain every transaction,” he added.
Rudeboy reflected on the intense scrutiny he faced, stating, “First of all, what entered my mind was, what if I was into fraud? That’s how my brother would have finished me? But I took it.” He described his discomfort with the investigative process, noting, “Then they started the investigation. At a point, I was no longer comfortable with the kind of questions they were asking me. When I knew it was serious was when they asked me to get a lawyer and sureties. I did everything.”
Approximately a month ago, the EFCC convened a meeting with Rudeboy, Mr P, and their elder brother, Jude Okoye. “They said, ‘First of all, we have to say that after all investigations, Paul is innocent. Paul is cleared. Everything you accused him of, we’ve done our investigation and he’s innocent,’” Rudeboy recounted. Despite being exonerated, he expressed disappointment that Mr P did not apologize for the false accusations.
