Valverde's stunning strike in the 55th minute gave Uruguay the lead. His low, right-footed shot beat Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, finding the back of the net.
However, Brazil responded quickly, equalizing just seven minutes later through Gerson, who capitalized on a header from a Uruguay defender to slot the ball into the net. Despite both teams having chances, including a near-miss from Brazil's Igor Jesus in stoppage time, neither could find a winner.
The draw preserved Brazil's unbeaten record at home in World Cup qualifiers, and they currently sit in fifth place with 18 points. Uruguay remains second with 20 points.
