MC Oluomo Declares Presidency of NURTW Despite Court Ruling Upholding Baruwa as Legitimate Leader

Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, recently announced his assumption of office as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), despite a legal ruling that nullified his election.

His presidency, previously declared invalid by the National Industrial Court in March 2024, was reaffirmed as illegitimate by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. This ruling reinstated Ibikunle Tajudeen Baruwa as the rightful leader of the union.

The appellate court described MC Oluomo's appeal as lacking merit, confirming the earlier judgment that recognized Baruwa's presidency. Additionally, the court invalidated the election through which MC Oluomo was declared president, deeming it unconstitutional and in breach of the union's established protocols. Baruwa criticized MC Oluomo's actions, describing his inauguration as a violation of the judiciary's authority and urging federal authorities to enforce the court’s ruling.

The controversy has drawn attention to MC Oluomo's history, including his prominent role in Lagos State politics and his ties to influential figures, such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His leadership claims have also sparked debates on the need for stronger adherence to the union's constitutional guidelines and judicial decisions.
