Mikel Arteta Provides Injury Update Ahead of Chelsea Clash
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an important update on the fitness of key players Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz ahead of the team's Premier League encounter with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
During a press conference, Arteta discussed the injuries sustained by both players in Arsenal’s recent Champions League match against Inter Milan. Merino, who was substituted at halftime, had been feeling unwell prior to the game. "He wasn't concussed," Arteta clarified. "But he was already feeling unwell yesterday and today. After assessing him, I decided to take him off because I need him at 100%."
Arteta also provided details on Havertz’s condition, revealing that the German midfielder had suffered a deep cut that required stitches. "Kai had quite a nasty cut and couldn’t continue," Arteta explained. "We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see how they respond to treatment."
Despite the concerns, Arteta remains optimistic about both players’ availability for the upcoming match. "Hopefully, they’ll be okay for the weekend," he added.
The match between Arsenal and Chelsea will take place on Sunday at 17:30 local time, with both teams currently tied on points. This makes the fixture an important one in the Premier League standings.
