The 48-year-old former striker expressed his excitement, stating: "I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive. I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the Football Club".
This marks a significant step in van Nistelrooy's managerial career. After his time at PSV Eindhoven, where he led the club to win both the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield in the 2022-2023 season, his stint was cut short amid internal disputes.
Following that, he briefly served as interim manager at Manchester United, guiding the team to three victories in four matches. His appointment at Leicester is considered a fresh challenge, especially as the club fights to avoid relegation, sitting 16th in the Premier League.
Van Nistelrooy's first game as Leicester's manager will be a tough away fixture against Brentford.
