Rúben Amorim Discusses Rashford and Garnacho's Exclusion from Manchester Derby.
Rúben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, has recently addressed the situation surrounding Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, both of whom were left out of the squad for the Manchester derby on December 15, 2024. United emerged victorious in the match, winning 2-1 against Manchester City, with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, the latter securing the win late in the game.
Amorim explained his decision to exclude the two forwards, saying, "We have to evaluate everything: training performance, game performances, and their engagement with their teammates." He added, "I expect the best from each player every day," emphasizing the importance of consistent effort and professionalism.
In response to recent comments from Rashford about seeking a "new challenge," Amorim acknowledged the player's aspirations, saying, "He is right. The challenge he seeks is here at Manchester United." Amorim also reiterated that his focus is on bringing out the best in all his players, including Rashford.
Looking ahead to upcoming fixtures, Amorim confirmed that player selection will be based on training performances. He stated, "If they train well, we have to make a choice," signaling that form in training will heavily influence his decision-making for future matches, including United's midweek Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham.
