Combs, a prominent figure in the hip-hop industry, was indicted in September 2024 on charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and related offenses. The indictment alleges that he orchestrated a criminal enterprise engaged in abuse and exploitation over several years.
Prior to this withdrawal, Combs had submitted three bail requests, all of which were denied by the court. The denials were based on concerns regarding the severity of the charges and the potential for witness tampering.
Attorney Tony Buzbee, representing multiple alleged victims, has indicated that the number of cases against Combs could approach 300, though he anticipates that approximately 100 to 150 will proceed. Combs' legal team has dismissed these lawsuits as publicity stunts.
The trial is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025.
