Bukayo Saka Hands Penalty to Martin Odegaard in Arsenal's 5-2 Victory Over West Ham
Bukayo Saka, Arsenal's usual penalty-taker, made a surprising decision during their 5-2 victory over West Ham at London Stadium. After being brought down by Lucas Paqueta and earning a penalty, Saka chose to hand the ball to his teammate Martin Odegaard. Saka explained, "Ødegaard wanted to take the penalty... I'm more than happy to give him the ball!". Odegaard confidently converted the penalty, adding to Arsenal's lead.
Reflecting on the decision, Saka praised his teammate, saying,"He always gives me the ball, so we have the good connection. Martin is a top player, he's been playing so good since he came back."
The goals for Arsenal came from Gabriel Magalhaes, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, and Bukayo Saka himself. West Ham responded with goals from Emerson and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but it wasn't enough to overcome Arsenal's strong performance.
