Arteta Slams "Obvious" Red Card Decision for Lewis-Skelly, Expects Overturn After Controversial Call in Arsenal's 1-0 Win Over Wolves

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his frustration following the controversial red card issued to Myles Lewis-Skelly during Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 25, 2025.
Lewis-Skelly was dismissed for a challenge on Matt Doherty, a decision that was upheld by VAR for "serious foul play." Arteta, visibly upset, commented, "It is that clear that I leave it to you guys. I am absolutely fuming but I leave it with you… it is that obvious."

The match saw both teams reduced to ten men, with Wolves' Joao Gomes also receiving a red card. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Arsenal secured the win through Riccardo Calafiori's decisive goal.

Arteta has indicated that he expects the red card decision to be overturned, drawing parallels to a similar incident involving Bruno Fernandes earlier in the season. He stated, "We are going to appeal the decision. I expect it to be overturned, just as we saw with Bruno Fernandes."

The victory keeps Arsenal in the Premier League title race, placing them second in the standings, six points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
