Pavel Nedvěd, the former Ballon d'Or winner and ex-Juventus vice-president, has been appointed as the new sporting director of Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab.

This announcement was made on January 7, 2025, following reports that Nedvěd had attended Al-Shabab's recent match against Al-Fayhaa in the King's Cup quarter-finals. Al-Shabab secured a 2-1 victory, advancing to the semi-finals.

Nedvěd's transition to Al-Shabab marks a significant shift in his career. After resigning from his role as Juventus vice-president in November 2022 amid financial controversies, he has now embraced a new challenge in the Saudi Pro League. His appointment is part of Al-Shabab's strategic efforts to enhance their competitive standing, with the club also securing the services of renowned coach Fatih Terim.

As sporting director, Nedvěd will oversee Al-Shabab's strategic direction and market operations, collaborating closely with Coach Terim to elevate the club's performance and stature in Saudi Arabian football. This partnership underscores Al-Shabab's commitment to building a competitive squad and a robust football operation.

Nedvěd's illustrious career includes winning the Ballon d'Or in 2003, making him the second Czech player to receive the award. He is celebrated for his dynamic midfield play and leadership on the field.
