Didier Drogba Defends José Mourinho Amid Galatasaray’s Racism Allegations

Didier Drogba has come to the defense of his former coach, José Mourinho, following allegations of racism made by Galatasaray.

The Turkish club accused Mourinho of making a racist remark, claiming he described their bench as "jumping around like monkeys" during a recent match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. In response, Drogba, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea and later represented Galatasaray, took to social media to express his support.

"Dear Galatasaray, you know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey," Drogba stated. "We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I've been lucky enough to experience it. I've seen the recent comments about José Mourinho. Trust me when I tell you I have known José for 25 years, and he is not a racist; history, both past and recent, is there to prove it."

He further urged, "Let's focus on our games, support our brilliant lions, and let's win the league to get close to our 5th star." Drogba concluded with a personal note, "How can my 'Dad' be a racist... Come on guys."

These remarks come after Galatasaray announced intentions to initiate criminal proceedings against Mourinho and plans to submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA regarding the alleged racist remarks. Fenerbahce, Mourinho's current club, has denied these allegations, labeling them as a malicious attempt to manipulate and divert attention from on-field competition.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien also expressed support for Mourinho by sharing a photo of himself with Drogba and Mourinho from their time at Chelsea. Essien responded with heart emojis to a video where Mourinho referred to himself as Essien's 'daddy,' highlighting their close relationship.
