Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-game touchline suspension and a £70,000 fine following his red card at the conclusion of the 2-2 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby earlier this month. The Football Association (FA) imposed the punishment after Slot was deemed to have engaged in improper conduct towards match officials.
Suspension Details and Affected Matches
As a result of the ban, Slot will be absent from the technical area for Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United on February 28 and Southampton on March 8. During his suspension, assistant coaches are expected to take over matchday responsibilities from the dugout.
Incident Leading to the Ban
The Dutchman was seen shaking hands with referee Michael Oliver after the final whistle at Goodison Park before exchanging words, which resulted in him being shown a red card. The FA determined that Slot’s behavior warranted disciplinary action, leading to the suspension and fine.
Additional Sanctions and Reactions
Liverpool’s assistant coach, Sipke Hulshoff, has also received a two-match suspension and a £7,000 fine for his conduct during the same match. Meanwhile, both Liverpool and Everton have been fined for failing to control their players during the post-match altercation.
Slot is set to return to the touchline for Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on March 16.
