Morata's tenure at Atlético Madrid began with a loan spell from Chelsea in January 2019, which was later made permanent. During his time with the club, he made 68 league appearances, scoring 28 goals and providing five assists. Notably, in the 2023–24 season, he set a personal best by netting 15 goals in La Liga, making him the team's second-highest scorer after Antoine Griezmann.
Despite his on-field contributions, Morata revealed that personal challenges influenced his decision to leave Atlético. He acknowledged that he needed to feel valued and appreciated, which led him to seek opportunities elsewhere. However, in hindsight, he recognized that manager Diego Simeone and his teammates at Atlético had always valued him. He remarked, "I needed to feel wanted and valued. But looking back, [coach] Cholo [Simeone] valued and wanted me too."
Morata also highlighted the personal support he received from Simeone during challenging times, revealing a more sensitive and sentimental side of the coach. Reflecting on his departure, Morata admitted, "In the summer, I should have thought things through more, but now there's no point in changing it."
Currently, Morata is focused on his career at Galatasaray and his role as captain of the Spanish national team. He is preparing for Spain's upcoming UEFA Nations League quarterfinals against the Netherlands, aiming to lead his team to success.
