In 2016, Cazorla suffered a serious Achilles injury that necessitated eight surgeries, casting doubt on his professional future. Complications arose when he contracted a life-threatening infection, resulting in the loss of eight centimeters of his Achilles tendon. Medical professionals warned him that he would be fortunate to walk again, let alone return to professional football.
Demonstrating remarkable resilience, Cazorla made an extraordinary comeback after 668 days of rehabilitation, rejoining Villarreal in 2018. At 40, he continues to play for Spanish second-division side Real Oviedo.
During his six-year spell at Arsenal, Cazorla was a fan favorite, contributing 29 goals and 44 assists in 180 appearances and playing a pivotal role in securing two FA Cup victories.
