Brazil Sacks Coach Dorival Júnior After 4-1 Loss to Argentina

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has parted ways with head coach Dorival Júnior after a heavy 4-1 defeat to Argentina in World Cup qualifying. The loss, which is regarded as one of Brazil's most significant setbacks in recent qualifying history, led to his dismissal just days after the match.

Júnior, who took charge of the national team in January 2024, had overseen 16 games, securing seven victories, seven draws, and two losses. Under his management, Brazil scored 25 goals and conceded 17. However, recent performances have raised concerns, with the team managing just one win in their last four matches, leaving them in fifth place in the South American qualifiers.

CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues confirmed the decision and stated that the search for a new coach is underway. Speculation points to Jorge Jesus, currently with Al Hilal, as a potential replacement, while Carlo Ancelotti is also rumored to be in the running, despite his contract with Real Madrid lasting until 2026.

Brazil's next World Cup qualifying matches are scheduled for June, with fixtures against Ecuador and Paraguay.
