Christian Eriksen, the 33-year-old Danish midfielder, has announced his intention to depart Manchester United upon the expiration of his contract this summer. Eriksen, who joined United in 2022, has indicated that discussions regarding a contract extension have not occurred, leading him to anticipate an exit from Old Trafford.
Throughout the current season, Eriksen has made 27 appearances for Manchester United. However, under the leadership of new manager Rúben Amorim, he has started in only six of the 14 matches, with two of those starts occurring in the team's last three games.
As Eriksen approaches free agency, he has expressed a desire to continue competing in top European leagues. He has ruled out a return to England, including a move back to Tottenham Hotspur, and is also reluctant to join Major League Soccer or the Saudi Pro League. Eriksen aims to find a suitable offer that aligns with both his professional aspirations and family considerations, preferring to remain in Europe rather than returning to Denmark.
Eriksen's anticipated departure comes amid a broader restructuring at Manchester United, with several players, including defenders Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf, and goalkeeper Tom Heaton, also nearing the end of their contracts. The club is expected to undergo a significant squad overhaul this summer.
