Despite denying the charges, Barton was convicted of assault by beating at Westminster Magistrates' Court. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring described his account of the events as "vague" and found him guilty after a two-day trial. He received a 12-week suspended prison sentence and was ordered to pay £2,183 in fines and court costs.
Following the verdict, Barton expressed his disappointment and confirmed his intention to appeal the ruling. He stated, "I'm really disappointed with the magistrate's verdict. I intend to appeal this to the High Court and I have to respect that process in between, so that is all I can say on the matter."
Despite the incident, Barton and his wife, who have been married since 2019, continue to live together.
