The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced the suspension following the circulation of videos on social media implicating Matasi in potential match manipulation. The FKF confirmed that the ban covers all FKF-sanctioned competitions and events while an official inquiry is conducted in collaboration with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other relevant bodies. The federation reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the sport and ensuring a transparent investigation.

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula revealed that upon confronting Matasi with the allegations, the goalkeeper denied any wrongdoing and expressed shock at the claims. Shimanyula noted that Matasi has only been with the club for a month, featuring in three matches, including FKF Cup games where he made crucial penalty saves. He emphasized that if any evidence surfaced against Matasi, it would not be linked to Kakamega Homeboyz, given the player's recent arrival.

The FKF has urged individuals with credible information on the matter to come forward, assuring that all reports will be treated confidentially. Additionally, the federation has sought assistance from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to support the inquiry. While match-fixing is not explicitly criminalized under Kenyan law, it could fall under fraud-related offenses within the Penal Code.

Matasi, 37, has enjoyed a distinguished career, having played for AFC Leopards, Posta Rangers, Tusker, and Ethiopian club Saint George. Since making his international debut in 2017, he has earned over 30 caps for the Kenyan national team.

The FKF reaffirmed its strict stance against match-fixing and pledged to safeguard the credibility of football competitions in the country. Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
