Borussia Dortmund are reportedly planning to initiate discussions with Chelsea to retain Carney Chukwuemeka beyond his current loan spell.
The 21-year-old midfielder joined Dortmund on a six-month loan in January 2025, which includes a €35 million option to buy.
However, Dortmund's ability to exercise this purchase option is contingent upon the club securing European qualification for next season. Currently, they sit 10th in the Bundesliga, several points adrift of the European spots.
Despite limited appearances due to knee issues, Chukwuemeka has shown promise, notably delivering a strong performance in a 6–0 victory over Union Berlin. Manager Niko Kovac has praised the young midfielder's potential, expressing optimism about his contributions if he remains fit.
Given these factors, Dortmund are eager to explore options to extend Chukwuemeka's stay, whether through activating the buy clause or negotiating a new loan arrangement with Chelsea. The outcome will largely depend on Dortmund's league performance and their qualification for European competitions.
