Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has publicly addressed his past association with convicted internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi. In a recent appearance on the BagFuel podcast, Davido clarified that while he and Hushpuppi were acquaintances, he was unaware of the latter's fraudulent activities.
"My prayers go out to him, he's my friend. I just used to see him around and I never really knew what he was doing, but he lived a good life," Davido stated during the interview.
Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai in June 2020 and later extradited to the United States, where he was convicted on multiple counts of cyber fraud. Despite the conviction, Davido expressed continued support for his friend, noting that he has maintained contact with Hushpuppi and anticipates his release.
"I've been talking to him too, he's coming out soon. He lived life," Davido added.
However, Davido emphasized that the lifestyle led by Hushpuppi was not worth the consequences. "Some people are happy to ball for five years and that's it. In Nigeria, we say, 'e get suffer wey you go suffer,' that is, you go through some hardships that you're like, 'let me ball for two years and I'm good'," he explained.
