Late Goals Lift Manchester City to Victory Over Everton
Manchester City strengthened their push for a Champions League place with a 2-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Despite struggling to break down the home side for most of the match, City found a breakthrough in the final minutes. Midfielder Nico O’Reilly netted the opener in the 86th minute, converting a low delivery from Matheus Nunes to register his second goal in the Premier League. The visitors sealed the result in stoppage time when Mateo Kovačić fired in a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area.

City dominated possession, recording over 67% of the ball, but were largely contained by Everton’s defensive organization until the late surge. The Toffees came closest to scoring in the first half through James Tarkowski, who struck the woodwork with a header from a set-piece.

The win pushes Manchester City up to fourth in the Premier League table, now on 58 points after 33 matches, giving them a slight cushion over Chelsea and Aston Villa, both of whom remain close in the race for a top-five finish. Everton, meanwhile, sit 13th with 38 points.

Up next, Manchester City return to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, April 22, where they face Aston Villa in another crucial fixture that could prove decisive in the battle for European qualification.
