The delegation included notable figures such as Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, Archbishop Matthew Kukah, and Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama. This high-profile team was sent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to represent Nigeria and deliver a condolence letter to the Vatican.
The ceremony followed the Pope's passing on April 21, 2025, just a day after leading Easter Sunday celebrations. President Tinubu described the Pope as "a humble servant of God" and praised his legacy as a champion for the poor.
