Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has officially confirmed that Wojciech Szczesny will remain at the club for another season. The experienced goalkeeper is set to sign a one-year contract extension, solidifying his position within the squad for the upcoming campaign.
Szczesny initially joined Barcelona as an emergency signing in October 2024, following Marc-André ter Stegen's unexpected knee injury. The Polish international, who had previously retired from professional football, stepped in to help the Catalan giants during a critical time. His short-term deal allowed him to showcase his reliability and professionalism, impressing both fans and the management.
Since making his debut in January 2025, Szczesny has become a vital player under manager Hansi Flick, providing leadership, experience, and dependability in goal. Despite competition with Inaki Pena, Szczesny has established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. Throughout the current season, he has made 24 appearances, recording 12 clean sheets and conceding 24 goals—a testament to his solid performance.
In a statement, Deco expressed his satisfaction with Szczesny's contributions: “We are happy with him. He will surely stay with us next season.”The new contract is expected to run through the 2025/26 season, with an option for a further extension.
