Carlo Ancelotti has officially been named the head coach of the Brazil national football team, making history as the first foreign manager to lead the Seleção in its 111-year existence. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced that Ancelotti will assume the role on May 26, following the conclusion of the La Liga season with Real Madrid.
The 65-year-old Italian coach brings a wealth of experience to Brazil, boasting a remarkable managerial career that includes five UEFA Champions League titles—two with AC Milan and three with Real Madrid. He has also won domestic league championships in Italy, England, France, Germany, and Spain. His appointment is seen as a significant step in Brazil’s quest to regain its status as a dominant force in world football.

CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues praised the move, calling it more than just a strategic decision but a clear statement of intent to restore Brazil to the pinnacle of global football. Ancelotti has signed a contract that runs through the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with an option to extend until 2030.

Ancelotti’s debut with the national team is scheduled for June 6 against Ecuador, followed by a match against Paraguay on June 10. Both fixtures are part of the South American World Cup qualification campaign.

Although Ancelotti’s son and longtime assistant, Davide Ancelotti, will not be joining him in Brazil, the coach is expected to benefit from established relationships with Brazilian stars such as Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Éder Militão, all of whom he previously managed at Real Madrid.

Ancelotti’s appointment signals the start of a new era for the Seleção, with high hopes as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup and future international competitions.
