Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez has been crowned the 2024/25 Premier League Save of the Season winner for his jaw-dropping goalline stop against Nottingham Forest. The Argentine shot-stopper showcased his world-class reflexes, denying Nicolas Dominguez’s point-blank header from a corner just centimetres before it crossed the line.
Martinez’s save, which had already earned him the December Save of the Month award, was widely praised across the footballing world. Former England international Jamie Redknapp compared it to Gordon Banks’ legendary stop against Pele in the 1970 FIFA World Cup, calling it “truly sensational”. Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, himself a former goalkeeper, described the save as “pure instinct” and “remarkable”.
The Premier League shortlisted ten saves for the award, including efforts from Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Dubravka, Andre Onana, David Raya, Robert Sanchez, and Guglielmo Vicario. Martinez emerged victorious after receiving the highest combined votes from fans and a panel of football experts.
