Lionel Messi's quest for continental glory with Inter Miami came to a crashing halt as the Vancouver Whitecaps delivered a stunning 3-1 victory in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals, knocking out the Florida-based side with a dominant 5-1 aggregate score.
Despite Messi’s presence alongside fellow stars Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets, Inter Miami struggled to keep pace with Vancouver’s intensity. Jordi Alba briefly revived hope with an early goal, but it proved to be a mere consolation as the Canadian side surged ahead with goals from Brian White, Pedro Vite, and Sebastian Berhalter.
White, in particular, continued his impressive tournament form, playing a pivotal role in sending the Whitecaps to their first-ever Champions Cup final. Inter Miami’s defensive vulnerabilities and Suárez’s extended goal drought added to their woes, as they were outplayed over both legs of the tie.
The Whitecaps now await the winner of the other semifinal between Cruz Azul and Tigres UANL, with the final expected to be held in Las Vegas.
