The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially resigned from his position, effective June 27, 2025.

In his resignation letter, Ganduje cited health concerns as the primary reason for stepping down. However, reports indicate that his decision was also influenced by internal political tensions within the party, including disagreements over zoning arrangements and the possible defection of former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Following Ganduje’s resignation, Alhaji Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman (North), was appointed as the Acting National Chairman in line with the party's constitution. His office at the APC Secretariat in Abuja was cleared shortly after the announcement, with staff and visitors expressing surprise at the sudden development.

Ganduje’s tenure, which began in August 2023, was marred by legal challenges and allegations of financial misconduct related to party ticketing processes. It is also believed that President Bola Tinubu played a role in encouraging his resignation, possibly in connection with plans to offer Ganduje an ambassadorial position.

The APC is expected to organise a national convention in the near future to elect a new substantive chairman. In the meantime, Bukar Dalori will oversee the party’s leadership in an interim capacity.
