Arsenal Football Club has formally announced the acquisition of Swedish international striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP. The deal is reportedly valued at up to £63.7 million, including an initial £55 million fee and £8.7 million in performance-related add-ons, totaling €73.5 million.
Gyökeres, 27, has signed a five-year contract with the Gunners and will wear the No. 14 shirt, famously worn by club legend Thierry Henry.

Since joining Sporting in 2023 from Coventry City, Gyökeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances across competitions. Following extended negotiations over clauses and agent fees, Arsenal agreed on a package that met Sporting’s valuation of the striker.

His arrival marks the club’s first signing of a natural No. 9 since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure in 2018. Gyökeres joins other summer arrivals such as Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Nørgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, pushing Arsenal’s confirmed summer spending past £200 million. The Swedish forward’s addition is seen as a major step in manager Mikel Arteta’s campaign to compete for the Premier League title.

Gyökeres, known for his pace, strength, and finishing ability, is expected to make an immediate impact in Arsenal’s attack. While Arteta had previously targeted younger options like Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak, sporting director Andrea Berta pushed for Gyökeres due to his experience and readiness to deliver at the highest level.

He is expected to join Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Asia, with a potential debut in a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong later this week.
